"Dance is bringing a reality to the moment of music."
                                                                      - Deyris Drake Neninger

Salsa dancing is hot, Hot, HOT! And Cuban Style Salsa (known as Casino) is the SPICIEST of them all!

The term "despelote" was coined by Elio Revé. To excite the audience and warm up the atmosphere, he would shout "¡Tremendo despelote!" during a drum jam. "Despelote" essentially means "letting it all out". In Cuban music, it is the time in the music when the bass drops out, and the musicians jam (this is known as the "bomba") ... and in Cuban dance, it is the time when the dancers move with excitement and frenzy to the rhythms the musicians create.  It is very sexy, and very fun!

Despelote Dance is a place to relax, have fun, meet new people and "let it all out" through the art of dance. Come feel the rhythm and experience the festival. Muy caliente!

Wear secure shoes you can spin in (i.e. leather or smooth rubber soles, no mules). Singles welcome, no partner necessary! test

Salsa Classes

Learn Cuban style salsa (Casino) moves in the "son" (closed position) and "guapea" (open position). Practice techniques for being a "follower" or a "leader" in a relaxed "no pressure" atmosphere. Become a true salsero as you dance casino and despelote to the new Cuban salsa fusion music: Timba.  Have fun, meet new people, and let it all out!

Rueda De Casino

Rueda de Casino is the fun new game Cuban Salseros are playing! Often explained as "Latino square-dancing" Rueda de Casino literally means "Circle of Salsa" - it is a fast paced game where a leader calls the moves and all the dancers perform it together, switching partners and dancing around in the circle. Ever see the movie "Dance With Me"? Well, that's it!

Baila Con Timba

Rey and Jenn also coordinate a Rueda De Casino performance team called: Baila Con Timba. The name of the team is a sort of play on words, as Timba is the name of the genre of contemporary Cuban salsa music, but the word "timba" also means "something with great flavor or swing".

Current members of Baila Con Timba are: Reynaldo Gonzalez, Jennifer Jonay, Marvin Lozada, Gloria Mills, Brenda Omondi, and Damian Padro.
